Are you brushing your teeth the right way?

Brushing your teeth is probably part of your daily hygiene (we hope!), but the toothbrush technique you use to clean your teeth might damage your gums and affect the efficiency of removing plaque (the white/yellow stone-like deposit most often found between your teeth).

If your gums are receded, your teeth look long and your gums have a curved red arch to it, the damage could have been done already.

Remember, oral hygiene is more than just brushing, the toothbrush bristles can’t reach between your teeth. Always complement your dental hygiene routine by flossing and brushing down your tongue, as well as using a mouthwash. This way you will prevent plaque from building up and your gums from bleeding and causing further damage.

If you are able to see the plaque on your teeth and your gums are already bleeding, a dental cleaning might be needed. See a professional for a thorough exam and start practicing proper tooth brushing techniques.

Here are some tips from the American Dental Hygiene Association on how to conduct proper tooth brushing.
